On Sunday we announced some really exciting news at the Ellon and Stonehaven sites, and we wanted to make sure that the whole City Church family knew it as soon as possible.
We’re planting a church
The Lord has been speaking to our church for several years about planting churches in other towns and cities across the nation. We know that he is asking us to play our part in writing a new future for the Church in Scotland.
We are now taking a very significant step. This coming summer, we will be commissioning Thomas and Mhairi Urquhart to lead the planting of a brand new (Vineyard) church in Inverness.
Thomas and Mhairi have served our church so faithfully and with enormous energy for many years. Initially as Youth Pastors, and more recently as the exemplary Site Pastors of the Ellon site, we all recognise the obvious call of God on their lives for this next step.
It will come at a high cost to us to send them to Inverness, but we are very excited about the thought of all that God has in store for them and the people of Inverness. We’re hoping and expecting that a number of people from City Church will make the move with them and join the launch team. Further details will follow in due course.
An exciting development
Clearly we were very concerned that the Ellon site was going to be handed over to exactly the right leaders. We’re thrilled to let you know that Tammy and Brian Docherty will be moving to Ellon in June to serve as the new Site Pastors for the site there.
In the same way that the Urquharts have had a clear call to Inverness, it’s equally obvious to us that Brian and Tammy have been called to lead the Ellon site. They are remarkable leaders, humble and full of God and we know they’ll be perfect for their new role. Again, let’s recognise that this move will be hard for the folk in Stonehaven who will miss them very much.
The transition between the Urquharts and the Dochertys will take place in August. Please be praying for the Lord’s grace to be on every aspect.
What an adventure we’re on!
